Who this guide is for
This guide is for first-time Stareceipt users — individuals tracking personal expenses or small-team admins setting up a shared ledger.
Step 1 — Create an account
- Visit app.stareceipt.com and click Sign Up.
- Follow the Stareceipt auth flow to enter your email address and request a verification code.
- Enter the verification code, choose a password, and complete sign-in.
- Continue in the Web App or download the mobile app and sign in with the same account.
Step 2 — Create a ledger
- Click New Ledger in the left sidebar.
- Give your ledger a name (e.g. Household expenses or Business travel).
- Choose the initial ledger / organisation settings your current client exposes, such as country or default currency where applicable.
- Click Create — your ledger is ready immediately.
Step 3 — Upload your first receipt
- Open the Capture page.
- Take a photo with your phone or upload an image from your computer.
- Stareceipt will extract the amount, merchant, date, and category automatically.
- Review the recognised fields and correct anything that looks off.
- Confirm the result. Depending on the extracted data quality, the receipt may be saved directly as a normal receipt or placed into the Needs Review flow for confirmation.
Step 4 — Review your spending
- Open Analytics from the navigation bar.
- Browse the category breakdown for the current week or month.
- Use the date range and category filters to drill into specific spending.
- Export to CSV if you need to share figures with an accountant or spreadsheet.
Tips for best results
- Photograph receipts flat-on — avoid angles, glare, and shadows.
- Crop out irrelevant backgrounds so the AI focuses on the text.
- After recognition, always verify the total amount and date before saving.
- If you receive digital receipts by email, set up a verified receiving email in the app and forward those emails to upload@stareceipt.com.
- For team use, configure member roles before sharing the ledger link.
