Use a currently supported iOS version for the mobile app. The app requires camera permission to capture receipts. Mobile browsers should download the native app rather than use the Web App for scanning. Android beta access is limited before the Google Play release.

  1. Open the app and tap Sign In.
  2. Enter the email and password you used to create your Stareceipt account.
  3. If your account has two-factor authentication enabled, enter the code from your authenticator app.
  4. The app syncs your ledgers and recent receipts automatically after sign-in.

Camera capture

The in-app camera is optimised for receipts and is the recommended day-to-day scanning path.

  1. Tap the + (capture) button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Select Camera.
  3. Frame the receipt so all four edges are visible and the text is in focus.
  4. Tap the shutter button. Stareceipt processes the image immediately.
  5. Review the extracted fields and tap Save.

Tips for a clean capture

  • Hold the phone directly above the receipt (portrait or landscape both work).
  • Make sure the surface is flat — avoid capturing receipts held in hand.
  • In low light, move to a brighter area rather than using flash, which can create glare.
  • Long grocery rolls: capture the header row and the total row in one frame if possible.

Import from photo library

If you already have a receipt photo saved:

  1. Tap +Choose from Library.
  2. Select the photo.
  3. Stareceipt processes it the same way as a live capture.

You can import multiple photos in one session — each is processed and saved as a separate receipt.

Offline mode

You can capture receipts without an internet connection. See Offline Mode for full details on how queued receipts sync when connectivity returns.

Push notifications

Depending on your deployment and current mobile build, Stareceipt can surface review and account-related notifications.

To enable notifications:

  1. Go to SettingsNotifications.
  2. Toggle on the alert types your build exposes.
  3. If your device has blocked notifications, grant permission in your system settings.

For full notification configuration options, see Notifications & Alerts.

Using the app on multiple devices

Your account can stay active across multiple devices and sync through the cloud. Device and session management controls may differ by client build, so this guide documents the shared capture and sync behavior only.

Updating the app

Keep the app updated to receive the latest AI recognition improvements and bug fixes. Enable automatic updates in the App Store, or update manually when prompted.

Troubleshooting

The camera won't open

Check that Stareceipt has camera permission: iOS Settings -> Stareceipt -> Camera -> allow access.

Recognition results look wrong on mobile

Poor results are usually caused by image quality. Try recapturing in better light. Use the desktop Web App later for review-heavy corrections if needed. See Receipt Recognition Guide.

The app shows stale data after signing in on a new phone

Pull down on the Receipts list to force a sync refresh. If the issue persists, sign out and sign back in.
