Current category-governance model
Current shared code exposes three related surfaces:
- Category management for the organisation's category tree,
- Tags for cross-cutting labels,
- Classification hints for nudging recognition and categorisation behavior.
These controls are organisation-scoped and are intended to improve categorisation consistency across shared users and receipts.
Category management
Shared Web and mobile clients expose category-management pages. Use them to maintain the category tree and the category list available during receipt editing.
Classification hints
Current shared Web code exposes a dedicated Classification Hints route and APIs for listing, creating, batch-updating, and deleting classification hints.
Use classification hints when you want the recognition / categorisation pipeline to behave more consistently for repeated patterns in your organisation data.
Tags
Tags are managed separately from categories and can be used for cross-ledger or cross-category grouping without changing the underlying expense category.
What this page does not assume
This page does not assume a universal wildcard-based merchant rule engine, a single Category Rules screen name, or a free-form custom-category text box unless your current client explicitly exposes those behaviors.
